Wagner R: Kaltluftseen in den Dolinen

Summary: In the drainless hollows of the surface, so for instance especially in the dolines of limestone hills, particularly on clear, windless nights, a pond of cold air forms. The cold air accumulates at the bottom of the dolines and on gentle slopes. In the case of nearsurface fog formed in a doline the coldest air layer is found in the upper level of the fog. Under similar weather conditions the development of the cold air pond depends on the dimensions relative depth, and vegetation of the doline. The cold air pond develops owing to thé shading of the W slope, flowing down of the cold air, and then shading of the doline bottom, while outgoing rediation also plays a role.
